NOAA-CREST RESEARCH: COASTAL REMOTE SENSING

The Coastal Water research program is focused on development of approaches for measurement, characterization and retrieval of the bio-optical properties of Case 2 Waters.


Goals:
• Evolution of measurement approaches for coastal water parameters through Hydrolight and coupled ocean atmosphere polarized and scalar RT model simulations.

• Development of suite of field measurement capabilities for algorithm testing and satellite validation in coastal waters. These will be used in field measurements in eastern Long Island and other coastal waters as opportunities arise, including Puerto Rico coastal waters (UPRM).

• Improvement/development of algorithms for remote sensing of coastal waters including retrievals of chlorophyll concentrations, fluorescence and IOP. These will be combined with examination of atmospheric correction considerations.
